FAQ

Answer

Am I required to attend?

Attendance is not required.  Orientation is intended to familiarize new employees with the campus services and community.

Can anyone attend?

The program is set up specifically for Faculty, Academic Professionals and Other Academic Staff.

How can I find out more about the weekly orientation put on by the Benefits Office?

Benefits phone number is 333.3112. You can also visit them online at Benefits.

How much does the luncheon cost?

The Office of the Chancellor provides the luncheon as a welcome to new employees. We only ask that you RSVP so that we can provide the caterer with an accurate count.

I already went to the Benefits Orientation.

The Benefits Orientation is set up to give you in-depth guidance to enrolling in your benefits package. The Faculty and Academic Professional Orientation is set up to discuss a wider spectrum of topics. For details, visit the Agenda page and the Resource Fair Page.

I am a new employee but I wasn?t included in the invitation. Can I still attend?

Absolutely. If your name wasn't included in the initial invitation, you can simply go to the RSVP page to register.

I attended last year, but would like to attend again.

The information will be very similar to previous years, please feel free to contact Academic HR at any time if you have questions. Additionally, you may visit our website or NESSIE for additional information.

I can't attend, can you send an information packet?

Absolutely. Contact our office and we will be happy to send you a packet. You may also want to contact the Resource Fair participants to receive packets of information they will be handing out at the event.

I changed my mind about going. Do I need to do anything?

It would be helpful for you to RSVP again notifying us of your change in plans. This will help us to provide the caterer with an accurate count.

I'm not new, but I didn't attend last year. Should I attend?

Our list is taken from Banner and includes anyone hired since August 22, 2006. Although you may not feel like a new employee, we think you will find valuable resources at the Faculty and Academic Professional Orientation.

I'm the contact for the department/college. Don't you need a list from me?

Yes, and in early August, we will be sending you a list of names and ask you to verify the names on the list and provide us with any names not on the list.

My colleague is new to the University, but didn't get an invitation.

Please ask your colleague to register by using the RSVP page page. We will be happy to add your colleague to the invitation list.

My home department is located in Champaign but I work full time on the UIC campus. Is there a similar orientation on the UIC campus?

For more information about the UIC Orientation call 312.996.4014.

What is the dress code?

Business casual dress is most common.

When is the orientation for someone hired January 1, 2007?

August 2007, however, please remember this orientation should not be confused with the weekly Benefits Orientation
